Village of Hillsborough

stablished as Blanchard's Village c 1700, Hillsborough was the home of Acadian
farmers for sixty years. These people led the way in dyke building, keeping
back salt water floods from the lush green meadows of this beauti ful valley.
By 1763, the Acadians had moved up the valley to The Bend (Moncton) and down
the other bank. Here they took up land grants in the Fox Creek area where they
may still be found. German immigrants arrived via Pennsylvania in 1767, a year
after landing in Moncton, and took over the empty fields. They resumed the dyking,
reclaiming large tracts of land still farmed by Hillsborough families today.
The most prominent family was that of Heinrich and Rachel Stief, (later the
name became Steves and Steeves) who were the founders of a family now counted
in every country in the world, and amounting to over 150,000. We Welcome you
to enjoy the many things to see and do in this area.
